Utrasound produces pictures of soft tissue and bony surfaces using sound waves. Depending on the type of tissue, the sound waves bounce back into a transducer. A computer uses those sound waves to create an ultrasound image. Ultrasound is painless and does not produce any side effects.
This technique gives a detailed rendering of internal organs, musculoskeletal structures and vascularization. Daily, we carry out interventional procedures during which we take tissue samples through ultrasound of pathologically infected organs in order to get a precise diagnosis.
An ultrasound examination takes about 30 to 40 minutes. The area that needs examining is shaved beforehand.
Devices in our clinic:

The department of Medical Imagaging also offers official screenings for hereditary liver or kidney conditions or disorders. These screenings are carried out in close collaboration with the department of Cardiology. One of our research specialties is contrast ultrasound. This technique allows to estimate the gravity of lesions (e.g. in the kidney) based upon the blood flow. This technique also allows for a good judgement of the function of the kidneys.
